JEE Main 2019Straight Lines Question with Solution

JEE Main 2019 (10 Jan Shift 2)

Question

Two vertices of a triangle are 0,2 and 4,3. If its orthocenter is at the origin, then its third vertex lies in which quadrant?

Choose an option

Show full solutionCorrect option: B
Correct answer
BSecond

Step-by-step explanation

Let the third vertex be h,k.

Since H is orthocenter of ΔABC

Since the slope of BH is 34 hence the slope of AC will be -43

Equation of line AC is

4x+3y=6  ...1

Similarly, since AH is parallel to y-axis hence BC will be parallel to x-axis and

Equation of line BC is

y=3  ...2

On solving 1 and 2

h=-34, k=3

 The point Ch,k-34,3 lies in the 2nd quadrant.
