JEE Main 2014Straight Lines Question with Solution

JEE Main 2014 (06 Apr)

Question

Let PS be the median of the triangle with vertices P(2,2), Q(6,-1) and R(7,3). The equation of the line passing through (1,-1) and parallel to PS is

Choose an option

Show full solutionCorrect option: D
Correct answer
D2x+9y+7=0

Step-by-step explanation

P(2,2); Q(6,-1); R(7,3)

S is the midpoint of Q and R.

∴   S132, 1

∴ Slope of PS=2-12-132=1-92=-29

Therefore, the equation of the line passing through (1,-1) and parallel to PS is

 y+1=-29x-1

 9y+9=-2x+2

 2x+9y+7=0
