Question

Let the plane containing the line of intersection of the planes P1: x+λ+4y+z=1 and P2: 2x+y+z=2 pass through the points 0,1,0 and 1,0,1. Then the distance of the point 2λ,λ,-λ from the plane P2 is

Correct answer
D36

Step-by-step explanation

Given,

Equation of planes P1: x+λ+4y+z=1 and P2: 2x+y+z=2

Now we know that equation of plane passing through the planes P1 & P2 is given by P1+kP2=0

Now given it is passing through the points 0,1,0 and 1,0,1,

So, x+λ+4y+z-1+k12x+y+z-2=0 when passing through 0,1,0 we get,

0+λ+41+0-1+k12×0+1+0-2=0

λ+4-1-k=0\

λ+3-k=0 ........1

And when passing through 1,0,1 we get, k=-1

So, from equation 1 we get, λ=-4

So, point 2λ,λ,-λ will be -8,-4,4

And distance of point-8,-4,4  from the plane P2 will be,

D=-2×8-1×4+1×4-222+12+12=186=36
