JEE Main 2020Three Dimensional Geometry Question with Solution

JEE Main 2020 (03 Sep Shift 1)

Question

The lines r=i^-j^+l2i^+k^ and r=2i^-j^+mi^+j^-k^

Choose an option

Show full solutionCorrect option: A
Correct answer
ADo not intersect for any values of l and m

Step-by-step explanation

Lines r=i^-j^+l2i^+k^ and r=2i^-j^+mi^+j^-k^

Clearly both lines do not have same direction means lines are not parallel.

Lines are skew lines or intersecting lines.

Let lines are skew lines and distance between lines is d if distance between them comes out zero then they will be intersecting lines.

For lines r=a+λp, r=b+λq

d=b-a·p×qp×q

Applying here

d=2i^-j^-i^-j^·2i^+k^×i^+j^-k^2i^+k^×i^+j^-k^

d=i^·-i^+3j^+2k^-i^+3j^+2k^=-114=114

Lines are skew lines means do not intersect.
