JEE Main 2017Three Dimensional Geometry Question with Solution

JEE Main 2017 (08 Apr Online)

Question

The coordinates of the foot of the perpendicular from the point 1,-2, 1 on the plane containing the lines x+16=y-17=z-38 and x-13=y-25=z-37, is:

Choose an option

Show full solutionCorrect option: C
Correct answer
C0, 0, 0

Step-by-step explanation

Direction ratio's of the plane perpendicular to two given lines is, n= n1×n2

=i^j^k^678357

=i^49-40-j^42-24+k^30-21

=9i^-18j^+9k^

Hence, dr's=9,-18,9

Now, plane passes through -1,1, 3 (A point on the first line),

Hence, the equation of plane containing lines is

1x+1-2y-1+z-3=0

x-2y+z=0

Foot of perpendicular of point 1,-2,1 is

x-11=y+2-2=z-11= -1+4+16=-1

x-1=-1 , y+2=2, z-1=-1

x=0, y=0, z=0
