JEE Main 2016Three Dimensional Geometry Question with Solution

JEE Main 2016 (03 Apr)

Question

If the line, x-32=y+2-1=z+43 lies in the plane lx+my-z=9, then l2+m2 is equal to

Choose an option

Show full solutionCorrect option: B
Correct answer
B 2

Step-by-step explanation

x-32=y+2-1=z+43 lies in lx+my-z=9

The point ( 3,2,4 ) lies on the plane. So it should satisfy the equation of the plane.

3l-2m+4=9

3l-2m=5 .......(i)

Line lies in plane

line is perpendicular to the normal to the plane

2l-1.m-3=0

2l-m=3 .......(ii)

l=1 and m= -1

l2+m2=1+1=2
