JEE Main 2022 (27 Jul Shift 1)

Question

Let a=αi^+j^+βk^ and b=3i^-5j^+4k^ be two vectors, such that a×b=-i^+9i^+12k^. Then the projection of b-2a on b+a is equal to

Correct answer
D465

Step-by-step explanation

Let a=αi^+j^+βk^,b=3i^-5j^+4k^

Now finding a×b=-i^+9j^+12k^

=i^j^k^α1β3-54

 4+5βi^+3β-4αj^+-5α-3k^

=-i^+9j^+12k^

Now on comparing side we get,

 4+5β=-1,3β-4α=9,-5α-3=12

β=-1,  α=-3

So, a=-3i^+j^-k^ & b=3i^-5j^+4k^

So, a+b=-4j^+3k^

Now finding a2=11 &b2=50

And a·b=-9+-5-4=-18

Now projection of b-2a on a+b will be

=b-2a·a+ba+b

=b2-2a2-a·ba+b=50-22--185=465
