JEE Main 2023Limits Question with Solution

JEE Main 2023 (24 Jan Shift 2)

Question

The set of values of a for which limxax-5-2x+2=0, where, ζ denotes the greatest integer less than or equal to ζ is equal to

Choose an option

Show full solutionCorrect option: A
Correct answer
A-7.5,-6.5

Step-by-step explanation

We have,

limxax-5-2x+2=0

limxax-5-2x-2=0

limxax-2x-7=0

limxax-2x=7

Now when aI (integer) then a-2a=7a=-7

Now when aI+f where f is fraction,

So, I+f-2I+2f=7

I+f-2I-2f=7

I+0-2I-2f=7

-I-2f=7

Now taking case 1 when f0,12

Then -I-0=7I=-7a-7,-6.5

Now taking case 2 when f12,1

So, -I-1=7I=-8a-7.5,7

Hence, from both the cases we can say that a-7.5,-6.5.
