JEE Main 2023Quadratic Equation Question with Solution

JEE Main 2023 (15 Apr Shift 1)

Question

The number of real roots of the equation xx-5x+2+6=0, is

Choose an option

Show full solutionCorrect option: D
Correct answer
D3

Step-by-step explanation

Given,

xx-5x+2+6=0

Now taking case 1 when x<-2 we get,

-x2+5x+10+6=0

x2-5x-16=0

x=5-892, ignoring x=5+892 as x<-2, so one solution is possible here,

Now taking case 2 when -2x<0 we get,

-x2-5x-10+6=0

x2+5x+4=0

x=-1, ignoring x=-4 as -2x<0

Now taking case 3, when x0 we get,

x2-5x-10+6=0

x2-5x-4=0

x=5+412, ignoring x=5-412 as x0

So, from all cases we get total 3 solutions.
