JEE Main 2021Capacitance Question with Solution

JEE Main 2021 (27 Aug Shift 2)

Question

Three capacitors C1=2 μF, C2=6 μF and C3=12 μF are connected as shown in the figure. Find the ratio of the charges on capacitors C1, C2 and C3 respectively.

Choose an option

Show full solutionCorrect option: D
Correct answer
D1:2:2

Step-by-step explanation

From the above circuit diagram, the equivalent capacitance of the combination of capacitors is,

Ceq=C1+C2C3C2C3

Ceq=2+6×126+12=6 μF

Then, QC1QC2=C1VC2C3C2+C3V=2×(6+12)6×12=12

and QC2=QC3

So, the ratio of charges are, 1:2:2.
