JEE Main 2019Mechanical Properties of Fluids Question with Solution

JEE Main 2019 (10 Apr Shift 2)

Question

A cubical block of side 0.5 m floats on water with 30% of its volume under water. What is the maximum weight that can be put on the block without fully submerging it under water?

[Take, density of water  =103 kg/m3 ]

Choose an option

Show full solutionCorrect option: A
Correct answer
A87.5 kg

Step-by-step explanation

In first case, when 30% of the cube inside water,
ρwVin g=ρcVg
VinV=ρcρw=0.3
Additional weight we can put w is,
Vρwg=ρcVg+w
w=Vρw-ρcg
=0.53×0.7×103×g
=87.5gN
Addition of mass that we can put =87.5kg
