JEE Main 2019Mechanical Properties of Fluids Question with Solution

JEE Main 2019 (09 Jan Shift 2)

Question

The top of a water tank is open to air and its water level is maintained. It is giving out 0.74 m3 water per minute through a circular opening of 2 cm radius in its wall. The depth of the centre of the opening from the level of water in the tank is close to:

Choose an option

Show full solutionCorrect option: B
Correct answer
B4.8 m

Step-by-step explanation

Volume of water flowing out=Av, where A is area of opening and v is speed of water from the opening.

Volume=πr2v

0.74  m3min=3.14×2×10-22×2×10×H m3s×60 smin

H=0.7460×3.14×4×10-42×120

H=4.8 m

Hence, the height of water in the tank was 4.8 m from the bottom of the tank.
